What are mechanical position switches?

Mechanical position switches signal the occurrence of a certain state, often the completion of a work step. In automation, a new work process can be initiated or a signal can be triggered. The mechanical actuation of a switch leads to an information transfer to a machine or system. This can be, for example, a safety function that ensures that the machine stops automatically in a dangerous situation.

Mechanical position switches usually consist of two modules: a basic device with a selectable switching contact and an individual drive head, such as a roller plunger, adjustable roller lever or spring bars. As a result, many combination variants are possible, which can be adapted for every application.
