Operating principle of resistance thermometers

Resistance thermometers belong to the category of process sensors and are often also referred to as Pt100 sensors or industrial temperature probes.

Resistance thermometers measure the temperature by means of the electrical resistor made of platinum. Platinum is used as resistor material because of its chemical resistance, the electrical characteristics, the good repeatability and easy processing. Numerous resistance thermometers can be distinguished such as Pt100 screw-in sensors, probe sensors as well as cable and outdoor sensors.
