Capacitive sensors are also often referred to as capacitive proximity switches and belong to the category of position sensors

Applications of capacitive sensors

Capacitive sensors are used in a variety of applications, such as:

Detection of nearly all plastics
Detection of glass, ceramics, wood and paper
Detection of conductive media or bulk materials
Metal detection

In contrast to inductive sensors, capacitive sensors detect almost all materials and media.

The portfolio of standard capacitive sensors offered includes variants made of metal, plastic as well as cuboid and cylindrical designs. The latter are available in M12, M18 and M30 versions. The switching distances range from 4 to 25 mm. The setting is made via potentiometers or so-called teach buttons and can be partly secured by key locks. Depending on the sensor, the function can be freely selected as normally open or normally closed.
